To help our customers maximize the return on their business intelligence investment, we’ve developed a conceptual model that illustrates the critical capabilities that drive successful BI initiatives. We call it the BI Success Model.
The BI Success Model is vendor and tool agnostic. The capabilities represented in the model apply equally to enterprise engagements and departmental or tactical deployments. The BI success Model illustrates the critical capabilities that drive successful BI initiatives by segmenting those capabilities into four major categories: data-driven decision making, organizational readiness, technical readiness, and measurable results.
RITNOA services are organized into Education, Product, Platform, Data and Decision service lines. This structure facilitates the focused delivery of our services and ensures the best mapping of resources to our client’s needs.
Smart Decision Making
At the heart of any BI initiative, regardless of the business problems being addressed, lies the goal of instituting data-driven decision making in an organization.
Business intelligence is all about making informed decisions based on solid data instead of on intuition or partial information. With effective BI systems, organizations can treat decision making as any other business process that can be evaluated and continuously improved.
To leverage the full benefits of data-driven decision making, organizations must adapt their processes and prepare their teams to take advantage of new BI capabilities. You may need to modify team member roles or create new roles to support data-driven decision making processes.
What’s important is that everyone buys in to the overall vision and strategy. You have to be careful to ensure alignment of BI initiatives with overall corporate goals. And your organization must develop skills around software, processes, and data as well as new ways to think about peer interaction during the decision-making process.
When most organizations think about implementing business intelligence, they think in terms of the technical aspects of the systems. Technical readiness includes ensuring that your technical infrastructure is aligned with the anticipated usage scenarios and that the necessary data is available and represented in a consistent manner to meet the information requirements of target users.
A key goal of technical readiness is planning for future growth and evolution of data-driven decision making in an organization.
Making good decisions based on solid information is a critical first step. But to realize the full value of business intelligence, an organization must be prepared to act on decisions efficiently and effectively. There are three broad outcomes that typically result from a data-driven decision: a behavioral change, a process change and a financial impact.
Organizations must be prepared to modify team behaviors and critical business processes based on the insight provided by their business intelligence system. It’s also important to monitor the financial metrics that illustrate the benefits of data-driven decisions to ensure that investments are targeted in the appropriate areas.
We’re successful when our customers are successful with our products. To promote our customers’ success, RITNOA has developed a collaborative workshop to help you evaluate your current business intelligence capabilities and to identify potential capability gaps relating to your BI initiative.
The Vision Workshop brings the key stakeholders of your initiative together and provides a structured forum, driven by the BI Success Model, to discuss the objectives and approach for your deployment. Our consulting services experts can help you identify potential risk areas based on our years of experience deploying enterprise BI and plan your deployment based on proven best practices.
